FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation)

FUT hair transplant requires substantial incisions to harvest hair by cutting a strip of skin from the donor region, which is usually the occiput, while the patient is under local anaesthetic (back of the head). As a result of this, FUT hair transplant is often called as "strip hair transplant".

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT), also known as Follicular Unit Strip Surgery, is the most common hair transplant method (FUSS).
FUT procedure steps:
1.The hair transplant surgeon creates a hair transplant hairline to conceal the balding spots.
2.The patient is given local anaesthesia to numb the occipital donor and recipient sites before the incisions.
  • The hair around extraction site is cut about two centimeters. From the donor location, a strip of skin with hair follicles is removed. The open wound is sutured (i.e., stitched up) by the hair transplant surgeon. To prepare them for transplantation, hair grafts are extracted from the surgically excised strip of skin. The surgeon creates small cuts in the recipient site known as hair transplant holes and inserts the harvested grafts.
  • Despite the fact that it allows the surgeon to extract a high number of hair follicles at once, we believe the FUT procedure is outmoded because it leaves an ugly scar on the patient's scalp. Because of this disadvantage, we don't conduct in our clinic.
However, clinics around the world continue to employ the FUT surgery to treat patients due to following reasons:
  • Hair transplants using the strip method are less expensive than other treatments since they may be completed in less time and with fewer individuals.
  • FUT does not require precision, knowledge, or specific instruments while extracting hair follicles. As a result, some clinics that do not endeavor to keep up with new technological advances may be able to carry it out.
